The Marathon Man (a.k.a. James Mullins)
has been disgusted with commercial radio ever since he
graduated with a broadcasting degree in 1992. Shortly
after moving to St. Louis in 1994 he discovered KDHX, a
43,000 watt community radio station where he began
volunteering and eventually got a show, which has been on
the air now for 10 years called Stumble In The Dark He
jumps at the chance to do radio, even doing a year on Wash
U's 10 watt station KWUR, where he wasn't even a student!
That was the first incarnation of The Side Trip. After
appearing in a Relix article about jam band dj's he began
talking with Wildman Steve. "He asked if I wanted to do a
show after he became program director and I jumped at the
chance." That was the second incarnation of The Side Trip
which lasted for three years. He's also involved in Zoe
Radio, a pirate radio station which broadcasts 24/7
during festivals at Camp Zoe owned by the Schwag in Salem,
MO. "The Marathon Man" came from a festival we did where
it was just two of us and I was literally on the air from the
time I woke up until the time I went to bed." "Now I'm
